Double page spread analysis
The DPS is laid out with a large picture of the band to the left and the main article of muse. There are many columns in the DPS all organised vertical. There is more text compared to pictures in the DPS. The photograph used is the band ‘Muse’ holding guitars, show that they are defiantly the genre rock. The outfit and expressions are to portray their band as serious and cool. The lead singer is positioned between the other band members to make him look the most important. The instrument also presents what they each play in the band. The style of the band members shows they want to be portrayed as professional.
The headline is about the main singer speaking to the audience. Many quotes are used to make it more interesting. The writer backs up the singer, giving positive comments about him. The language features used are rhetorical questions, quotes and descriptive writing about the main singer. The font style is very modern with black colour fill which is suited to this type of magazine. The article uses a pull quote stating “it can’t be a coincidence were a band of misfits”. This pull quote is from the lead singer Matt, giving his own opinion/quote to the readers about his band.
The stand first introduces the main singer into the interview, describing his actions. Words such as ‘murder’, ‘brutality’ and ‘death’ describes the lead singer as being tough and violent which may lead to how the band might want to be portrayed. I believe the artist/band would be happy with the writer’s comments/quotes. The writer indulges into a brief description of the main singer. The DPS is suited to more of an adult group because the pages are simple to read, plain font style and the vocabulary is bigger.
DPS Analysis
The DPS is laid out with large title and pictures on the left hand side and also on the right hand side. The page on the left is mainly text lead with picture of artists scattered across the page. The style of the font is very modern and the page use different font types to make it look fancier. The columns are placed around the large title, easy for the reader to navigate around the page. The columns have Body cap on each column. There is a stand first at the bottom introducing the main article.
The photographs used in the DPS are of all the music artists from 2010 cut out and spread on the page. There is no lead band or singer in the article because it is mainly focused on other artists. The headline is short and simple explaining to the audience the best fifty albums of 2010. The font style is very modern with vibrant colours mixed in.
The language used to describe the albums is positive in all the rankings. The description of the band is a positive tone, describing their personal achievements. The DPS has two articles, one that is for a band and the other is about albums. The style of the magazine goes with the pop look of the article story. The style of it is very modern with vibrant colours to show charm. I can tell the audience for this DPS is for teenagers because of the pop genre involved in the article. The use of pictures scattered keeps the reader interests and the pictures are of mainstream artists, listened today by today’s teenager/young adults. I like the Photoshop technique of cutting out celebrities scattering them round and fitting them in with the columns. I like how the columns are organised to fit well in the DPS covers. Front Cover Analysis
This magazine is also suited to the younger audience. The music genre is all music however it is mainly main stream. The colours make it look more modern. The uses of the vibrant colours are to make it look pretty to the audience. The pictures are of all artists from different genres. The magazine is laid out with the pictures of different scattered over the top of the font. The Masthead is in the top Left corner visible in a newsagent. The main article is laid out large on the whole page, making it look like the most interesting story. The skyline is used to represent all the different artists listed at the front.
The pictures are of popular bands to reach to all music genres. The colours are very vibrant in the background because of its target audience. The black on white text is also used for a more modern look. The text at the bottom uses a rhetorical question to make them find out the answer. The font style is very modern with a 3D effect to make the cover stand out. The font is used regularly with NME magazine issues. The layout is different to the others, more pictures and fonts are speeded across the cover. It gives the reader a lot of options.
Double page spread analysis

The double page spread is laid out with the whole background spanning on two pages. It shows the luxurious scenery abroad. The Text is on top of the picture. There are three large columns all neatly in a row above a big space. The photograph used in this picture is of the band (Swedish house mafia) enjoying an expensive holiday, in rich clothes. The band is portrayed as rich/ higher class because of their style and background. The meaning of this photo is to show their lifestyle which is also linked with their article. The women are also placed in the photo to show how much of ladies men the band is in life. The DPS also has black on white text.
The style of writing is a positive tone about their lifestyle in the amazing Ibiza. There are quotes used in the article to explain how good it is in Ibiza and feedback to fans. It is an interview with the band, so it uses quotes as a feedback to readers. The article starts of describing the amazing scenery that the band is living in. Then the writer describes their background and achievement’s. The quotes are in tone of hysterical use from the band. The headline font style is very modern and very bold.
I think the band would be happy on how they are perceived in the DPS. The photo shows their wealth, the descriptive writing is positive and the headline stands out from the rest of the fonts. The target audience for this DPS is for young adults that like clubbing or dancing. It is also for readers that enjoy the music of the Swedish house mafia. It can be an interest for learning about their background and lifestyle of this famous band.
The Photoshop skills used in this DPS is the layers of font and images with added effects. I like the use of modern style font and the organisation of the columns.

Masthead Analysis
The kerrang masthead is suited to a heavy metal genre. The Large font is has cracks through it to make it look violent. The blood stain at the bottom also portrays these magazines as mad. The black plain font is more suitable compared to a font pink and colourful. The masthead is very mad or forceful to the reader. It stands out very good with a mad vibe to it. The masthead shows it is more suitable to metal rock fans for adults or teens.
Classic FM magazine is more suited to a more mature audience. The font style is simple and modern compared to the kerrangs violent look. The writing style also looks suited to upper class audience because the design of the red ‘F’ looks very fancy. The title doesn’t have much design to it and fewer colours. The kerrang has a more violent vibe to the masthead however classic FM masthead design looks more calming.
How women are represented in 50 cent ‘Candy shop’ video
In this video the women are presented as much more obedient to men. The song is trying to show women as candy and the men picking which sweet they want. The women are dressed up in short clothes to seduce the men and please them. There are many sexual innuendoes in this video such as ‘I’ll let you lick my lollipop’. The women are mainly there to please the men in this candy shop. The women are all physically attracted, which is what the men want and get.
The men show they are rich and famous to get all these hot girls to attract them. Many women would be against the video because of how the men portray women more like candy than a person. The lyrics are also very dirty, using many sexual innuendos which are more targeted to an older audience. This whole video is for the viewpoint of men, their dream place; nothing is viewed of what women want. At one point the women are dressed in red, which is a colour of seduction or danger. The women are also dressed in other colours to represent other candy selection. The women are the main purpose in the video, tending to all the men’s needs.
The whole video is suited to the rapping industry; it is what all the men want in all the videos. It also shows that because they are rich it means they can get all these physically attracted women to seduce them. This song is based on all men’s ideas. The audience is suited for all men and not for women. The ending of the video rightly shows it is a man’s dream to have women acting seductive. The main meaning of this video is that men are picking any candy they want which is represented as women.

Cover analysis
The magazine Q features are similar to many magazines. The Logo is set to the left for view and it is large font with it smashed by the guitar, which shows its rock themed. The Image of the singer is large and stands out in front of the audience. The singer expressions and body language is very rough which is mainly suited to the rock genre. The singer has a cool attitude because of using the uitar to smash up the logo. This shows it is for mainly 16 - 30 year old's. The singer is portrayed as very rough and out of control which also links with the lead article. The guitar definitely shows the audience that the issue is mainly about rock.
The layout is very simple on this front cover. The singer is next to the bold main article. The skyline text tells the readers how amazing the magazine is in shops and it also uses the white on black effect. The magazine uses less text on the cover which gives it more space for the large image. The masthead/logo is placed big, bold with a a bright red colour to stand out in front of the reader. The Q logo is smashed to give the singer a rough/tough portrayal.
The colours are very dull with not much lighting included. The red on the masthead is to make it stand out for readers to remember its reason. The clothing is also black and red colours to represent this music magazine. The cover lines are different colours to make it look more vibrant. The cover is very simple compared to other magazine. This magazine gives the impression of an audience for an older age group however it looks suitable for all age groups.
